The next 2nd of November within the Voll-Damm Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barcelona my new creation will be officially presented: »CLASSIC CUBA« ®Mauricio Vallina 2014

 

A deliberately-exclusively Cuban Music program, the way I've always seeing it: without any spanish-music touch. Obviously then, with a specific malice aforethought there won't be no 'Malagueñas' of any kind are included... This 'Grand-manner' program is a reverential homage to the XIX century founding-patriarchs of the Cuban Dance Music and their enchanted world of touching musical miniatures and virtuoso filigree.

 

The programm will be presented in a kaleidoscopic order and crowned with a very special memorial to whom I owe all the references: »Zenaida Manfugás«, a fierce wielder of this precious legacy. This is not another recital program, this is a very particular message of humanity.

 

The concert will include music of Gottschalk, Saumell, Cervantes, Lecuona y Roig/Manfugás.

Nicholas Angelich, Martha Argerich, Frank Braley, David Fray, Nelson Goerner, Dong-Hyek Lim, Gabriela Montero, Akane Sakai, Mauricio Vallina, Lilya Zilberstein.

 

Fifteen pianists in two days play nine of the fourteen J. S. Bach (1685-1750) concertos dedicated keyboard, making him one of the first composers to focus so intensely on this intrument. This Bach concertos marathon, this concert "shock" will be expected with the movements and giant apparition of Nicholas Angelich and David Fray, for which Bach is not just a word, with the young Japanese Akane Sakai, the born improviser Gabriela Montero and Mauricio Vallina, a clear devotee of the "pack" Argerich. Who will play with whom? Surprise, but there are already trivial confrontations predicted. All this for the glory of the Cantor and his pages full of vivacity and fullsight spirits, which is per se a thoughful call for exchange, dialogue and simply joy on music.

Blüthner Classic Special: Martha Argerich & Mauricio Vallina

 

Right after a concert in Moscow where Martha Argerich and the cuban pianist Mauricio Vallina met they  became very close friends. He belongs to the "chosen few" that has the privilege to share a close friendship and to play with her around the world. Meanwhile is Vallina an international aclaim and celebrated pianist too, and since 2002 he belongs together with Misha Maisky or Gideon Kremer to the solid circle that play regularly at the "Progetto Martha Argerich" in Lugano - the family meeting of the Piano Grande Dame. Martha Argerich & Mauricio Vallina play concerts for four hands together around the world, and finally they visit  our city to deligth the Leipzig Gewandhaus audience with a two Blüthner pianos magnificent interpretation. The Blüthner-Reinhold-Foundation warmly honor and welcome this two artist to our city.

Liszt's transcriptions yielded results that were often more inventive than what Liszt or the original composer could have achieved alone. One of this incredible virtuoso pieces is the Concert Paraphrase on "Rigoletto" S. 434 (LW A187) based on the opera of the same name. Verdi's masterpiece was based on the play Le roi s'amuse by Victor Hugo, a tragic story around the duke of Mantua, his hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto and Ridoletto's beautiful daughter Gilda.
